Professor Archana Barua

Archana Barua is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences ,Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. She is currently the member, Advisory Committee of the ICSSR-NERC,Shillong . Archana Barua received her doctorate from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in 1991 following post graduate and undergraduate education in NEHU, Lady Keane Girls College and Cotton College respectively. A distinction holder in Logic & Philosophy in her undergraduate level, she has topped the list of successful candidates of Philosophy in both her B.A. and M.A. examinations. A recipient of Gold Medal in Philosophy from the then Prime Minister of India, Smti. Indira Gandhi, she has received several, scholarships, travel grants and has published in a range of journals. She taught at St.Anthony's College from 1976-1998 and chaired the Department before she joined IIT Guwahati in 1998.
Her field of interest is twentieth century European philosophy, especially phenomenology (the philosophy of Edmund Husserl) and its development in Heidegger, existentialism (Sartre, Merelau-Ponty), and Hermeneutics of Paul Ricoeur and philosophy of religion. With her systematic interests in philosophy of science and technology, applied ethics, Indian philosophy and Gandhian Philosophy, she has also taught and guided research work in areas of German Idealism, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, and Kafka .Her lately published book 'Phenomenology of Religion' includes a Foreword by Professor J.N.Mohanty, (Professor of Philosophy, Temple University, Philadelphia and Woodruff Professor of Philosophy and Asian Studies, Emory University, Georgia) who has remained the source of inspiration for her current research interest.

Prof. Sujata Miri

SUJATA MIRI was born in Delhi on 23 June, 1942। Her father, Mukund Lal Khanna, was a renowned refrigeration engineer and was Chief Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture during the early years of India’s independence, but resigned from his position owing to differences with the government. Her mother, Manorama, was an extremely popular social worker and worked for long periods with slum-dwellers in Delhi.Sujata took her BA degree with Honours in Philosophy from Lady Sriram College of Delhi University and her MA in Philosophy from the same College. She got a first class in her MA examination. On the basis of her excellent academic record, she was selected by the College as Lecturer in Philosophy immediately after her MA examination results were announced. She taught Philosophy in Lady Sriram for the next ten years. During her lectureship in College she excelled herself not only as a teacher, but also as a leading contributor to collegiate life. She produced plays for the College which are still remembered, organized seminars and was instrumental in creating an atmosphere of harmony and cordiality among teachers and in student-teacher relationship. While teaching in College, Sujata also worked for the PhD degree of Delhi University and received the degree in 1973. In 1974 she accepted the offer of a Visiting Fellowship at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study in Shimla to complete writing her book, Suffering. The book was published by the Institute in 1976. In 1975, Sujata went to teach in the newly established national University in Shillong, the North-Eastern Hill University. She rose to a professorial position there in a few years, and also became the Head of the Department of Philosophy and Dean of the School of Humanities and Education. She retired from University service in 2005 and has since settled down in Delhi.

Dr. Chhanda Chakraborti, Associate Professor in Philosophy at Dept of Humanities and Social Sciences, joined IIT Kharagpur in 1999. Prior to that, she had served as Group Leader, Humanistic Studies at BITS Pilani during 1996-1999.

Dr. Chhanda Chakraborti obtained her Ph D from University of Utah, USA in 1995. She is a double M.A in Philosophy from University of Washington, USA, and Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Her research and publication areas are: philosophy of logic, philosophy of mind and applied ethics. She is interested in human cognition, particularly in thinking and reasoning. In philosophy of mind, her research interest is in the metaphysics of the mental, particularly in non-dualistic options. In applied ethics, her research areas are health and public policy, development and public policy, and corporate governance. In addition to research articles, she has also published two books.

Prof. K.K.Sharma, Former Pro-Vice-Chancellor North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong (Meghalaya) has served in many universities in different capacities. He has worked as Deputy Registrar, Reader, Professor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Kohima Campus of North-Eastern Hill University. Later on, he served as Professor and Head in Nagaland University at Kohima. He has worked as Professor Faculty of Education at Sri Satya Sai University whitefield campus Bangalore.

Prof. Sharma worked as coordinator for UGC Academic Programmes in education at NEHU and Programme Director for Diploma in Higher Education in Indira Gandhi National Open University at Shillong and Regional coordinator for B.Ed. Programme at IGNOU Regional Center Karnal (Haryana).

Prof. Sharma at present is working as Visiting Professor at Centre for Sri Aurobindo Studies (UGC Sponsored) S.L.D.A.V.College of Education (IASE) Ambala City. He is President of Council for Teacher Education (Haryana State Chapter).

Prof. K.K.Sharma is President of Nagaland Institute of Health, Environment and Social Welfare (IHESW) Kohima, Nagaland an NGO which is working for the welfare of tribal communities in the area of Health, Environment, Social Welfare, Children’s Science Congress and other related areas.

Dr। Ajit kumar Sinha M.A. PhD.(Illinois) was born on 22nd August,1923 at village Khaspur in West Bengal,India. His father late professor Jadunath Sinha is well known for his contribution in the field of Indian Philosophy and Psychology. Dr Sinha was professor of Philosophy at Kurukshetra University. His main contribution to the world of Philosophical thought was his theory of telic principles which he propounded to explain Science , Culture, World Order, Social behavior and Creativity. His theory of cosmic teleology attempted to bridge the gap between Modern Science and Indian Spiritualism. He contributed about 110 research articles which appeared in various reputed Research journals. He authored about 20 books. He was well known in the field by his writings marked by originality and erudition. His contribution to the world of Philosophical thought was recognised and he was made honorary member of American Philosophical Association, U.S.A., International Society for study of time,U.S.A., Research Institute for Study of Global History of Philosophy, W. Virgina, U.S.A. as consultant and Indian Philosophical Congress. He was a member of the editorial Board of journal of Arts & Humanities and interdisciplinary Studies, Univ. of Connecticut U.S.A., Journal of Education, Praci-Jyoti, Digest of Indological studies, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra University Research Journal of Arts and Humanities. He was also the editor of the Proceedings of symposia on Philosophy(!966), Democracy and World Peace ; An International journal. His bio-graphical sketch appeared in who is who in World published by Marquis Publications, Chicago, U.S.A. Some of his writings couldnot be published during his lifetime.An attempt is being made to compile and edit his unpublished works.
